As the district manager for a sporting goods store, Nelson knows what it takes to survive off the grid. Michelle is a nurse, a mom, and fully capable. Nelson and Michelle are hardworking Americans with a secret they are part of a circle of individuals who are prepared for the worst. They know that the worst is coming; it's just a matter of time.

When the stock markets in Asia crash, the family knows that it is time to pull together with their circle of friends and get to their safe zone. But nothing worth doing is ever easy. Not content to just seize the assets of Americans, the United States government paints a target on the backs of survivalists and preppers, demanding that all Americans turn in their guns, ammunition, and food, and placing restrictions on travel.

With the family in the cross-hairs, will they make it safely to their farm? Or will they fall victim to the machinations of a government who no longer believes in the Land of the Free?

Forgotten Forbidden America Rise of Tyranny Volume 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Thomas A Watson Joel Eutaw Sharpton Books

A family with a cautious eye toward their future....and a wariness to the climate of the country. As events push closer to an extreme, Nelson and his family close ranks to ensure their survival. Like-minded friends are crucial and Nelson's family is joined by true friends...and patriots.

When the current condition of the United States becomes rather unAmerican, the family and friends will attempt to "bug out" to a more defensible location. But with the federal government targeting "prepper groups" and people who can live without dependence, will Nelson's group survive this transition? Will they be caught up in the political posturing and threats at hand?

A well-written and exciting story that not only entertains, but divulges valuable lessons for any reader aware of his/hers surroundings. Basic life tips seamlessly woven into an impressive and believable tale. Very well done!

Forgotten Forbidden America Rise of Tyranny Volume 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Thomas A Watson Joel Eutaw Sharpton Books Reviews

Not sure why Mr. Watson started another series with the Dark Titan Journey series just getting started but glad he did. Have enjoyed all his books and will continue to buy them. He has believable characters that are easy to follow in the story line, and makes the events seem realistic. Will buy future books in this series. This particular book starts with a societal collapse based on financial collapse rather than EMP or a virus. Good alternate scenario.

Would have given five stars but author got off on tangent that the whole collapse was a UN/Homeland security conspiracy. In real life the UN couldn't conspire to empty the trash without a huge staff, lots of funding and considerable corruption. Keeping this kind of secret or any kind of secret, is beyond their ability. From a Homeland perspective it is too large and too bureaucratic to keep and organize anything even close to this scale. Them wanting more power (control and funding) I can easily see. Them trying to insert themselves at every level in a society collapse scenario I can also see. Also think there will be refugee camps and can't believe any government agency would allow refugees to bring weapons into the camps. Just can't believe that FEMA/Homeland together had some big secret plan to move the whole populations into camps. Too many people involved for this to stay a secret past the first meeting.
I found this to be fairly disappointing. The premise of the plot was fine but the execution was not. There are a lot of typos, writing errors etc that could really use an editor. The constant risque banter between Nelson and Michelle was very annoying and rather than being "cute" was positively sophomoric. People just don't call each other "baby" virtually every sentence. If this was to try to get the reader to connect and like them, it was not effective. Just after they arrive at the farm after a harrowing trip to get there, Michelle suddenly goes ballistic about events that happened years ago, so much so that Nellie (one of the two sane people) chastises her. And this is the same Michelle that has a problem with people saying the word "hell"? In the middle of all this, the Princess Leia costume was just not believable. Equally puzzling is that not 24 hours after the President's announcement, Nelson decides to using his sniper skills to simply kill 4 federal agents. I get that at some point you might have to take drastic action to protect yourself and your associates, but he went dark very fast. I just don't buy it.
I have got to say Thomas has a knack for writing and I haven't found anything by him that has ever dissapointed me.
With all the books he has written and now another new storyline that once again pulls me in and makes me wish I could actually meet the characters it is no wonder he has become a favorite on my book shelf.
This series is a very real take on something that could actually happen and probably sooner than we all think. It is a fun read plus almost a guide book as well on something people should have on hand in case of emergencies.
I love the book and all of the others so much I am super impatient to read more.
My best rave for a book is saying "It wasn't long enough" because when I love it that much I don't want it to end and this one of them. Thanks again sir for another awesome read full of everything I love reading about. Especially the toys!
Having served in the military (Army), author Watson knows his weaponry, which is refreshing. He paints pictures of his characters very well, especially his wife, whom he describes as somewhat of a young fishwife, and apparently he puts up with that because he really loves her, altho I doubt I ever would. She is argumentative and puts her judgement above her husband's, even in areas where she is inexperienced. Among all of the adults, there is much "snapping" of dialog. Author must like that word. Also, there is too much dialog that is just schmoozing and adds nothing to the story.

The story is about a US financial and economic collapse, rather than the usual EMP. It is chilling and scary that the Homeland Security Dept. immediately takes total control of the populace much like the Nazi SS and Gestapo did in Germany, using the local and state police to assist them. As is typical in a police state, the Homeland agents and police use their coersive power to rob, steal and kill, much like the Nazi SS did. Thus, in abrogating the US Constitution, they are the real terrorists and criminals, not the citizens they so label and arrest and ship to concentration camps or murder.

An interesting story and much food for thought in dealing with a "Time of Crisis.".
